The Mike Varley Plain Dealer: Accepted for Curate NYC’s Emerging Artists Exhibition

October 22nd, 2010 by admin

Hey Friends,

A one issue hiatus from my usual format to relate some good news: I was selected by Curate NYC as one of New York’s emerging artists of 2010.  The submission guidelines were to send one postcard-sized photo of your work along with an artist statement or biography.  I submitted “All You’ve Ever Wanted Has Always Been Right Here,” which I had some great photos of thanks to a recent photo shoot with photographer Kaita Takemura.  Twelve hundred artists submitted but only one hundred and fifty were chosen for the exhibition.  The pieces are exhibited in postcard form and can be found at the following locations and times.  The show will be circulating among four locations for the next two weekends, including East Harlem, Chelsea, Staten Island and the Lower East Side.

And of course I couldn’t go to an opening without documenting it.  Watch the video here, with a special guest appearance from hip-hop mogul Russell Simmons!
Special thanks go to Sophie Hays for helping me with last minute image formatting and Angel Wuellner for directing the submission call to my attention.
Until next time, thanks for your support.
Mike Varley
